Evergreen huckleberry is an elegant, upright shrub to 6' tall and 4' wide with pretty drooping bell-like pink flowers followed by delicious blue berries. It grows in part-sun or shade, though seems to favor "edge of woods" environment. It can be found in maritime chaparral in Pt Reyes Seashore. It is one of the few berries that grow well in the shade, able to be sweet and tart at the same time.
New growth in spring is a beautiful coppery-red. A most desirable plant, both edible and ornamental. It is slow-growing when young. We save used coffee grounds as a mulch for evergreen huckleberry.
