Western Redbud

Cercis occidentalis

Ornamental large shrub or small tree, California Redbud (Cercis occidentalis) is a deciduous, multi-trunked shrub with showy magenta flowers in March-May, attractive and distinctive round blue-green leaves, and lovely fall color. Drought-tolerant and sun-loving. Provides garden interest throughout the year. Important basketry material for California's indigenous basketweavers.

This large shrub is frequently seen in median strips and in other situations where little maintenance is provided. Its ultimate height is 12-15' and about 8' wide.
